[Instagram] Spring Break Has Come and Gone...

-My sister took her STNA test over Spring Break and passed! Now, she can work as a nursing aide this summer! I'm so proud of that girl. Doesn't she look so cute in her scrubs?
-More snuggle time with Rosie! I think this past week has been the most time I've ever spent with her. Normally, she just lays on the floor or upstairs by the window. I guess she just missed me so much that she had to lay on top of me for hours :)
-Yes, more of my puppy. How could I not want to capture that gorgeous face?
-Rosie has been scratching herself a lot, so my mom had to get new medicine for her that made her stop itching, but also made her so sleepy! The first day she was on it, she slept through the entire morning and didn't come out of her kennel to see us until around lunch time.

-On Saturday, my sister and I stopped by Gigi's Cupcakes to surprise our parents. We got Red Velvet, Wedding Cake, Midnight Magic, and Carrot Cake. The cakes were okay, but the frostings were so good. I could eat a whole bucket of those frostings…
-My sister and I were in charge of dinner each night, so one night we made Italian Wedding Soup! Yum!
-We also made some Broccoli Cheddar Soup for lunch one day. Mmmm, we made some pretty darn good food this past week!
-After my sister took her STNA test, she picked up some Five Guys to celebrate. I got the little burger and we split the large fry three ways (with my dad)…it was still so much food! But oh so good.

-While I was home, I had a huge urge to watch Grease 2, but I had left my copy at school! So the first thing I did when I got back to my apartment yesterday was pop in the DVD and rock out to the songs while I unpacked.
-So many pretty dresses! I brought some more dresses back to school and I can't wait for the weather to finally warm up so I can start to wear them! I bought the black and white striped one from Target on Saturday and am already obsessed with it. I can't wait to wear it!
-See how excited I was to run 11 miles? Haha, I got up earlier on Saturday to knock out those 11 miles and ended up running it in 95 minutes. Half marathon, here I come!
-My sister and I decided to watch Armageddon together while we were home. We had seen it a ton as little kids, but we barely remembered it! So we spent Wednesday afternoon watching Bruce Willis pretending to be the father of the woman he was actually dating in real life...

UniVoxBox 2014

My VoxBox finally came! I've received boxes from Influenster before and always love seeing what little goodies are inside. This time around, I qualified for their UniVoxBox, which is for college students. The little purple box arrived last week and I couldn't wait to dig into my new goodies.

Playtex Sport Fresh Balance ($3.99-$4.99)
This was probably the item I was most excited for. As a runner, I need a tampon that is comfortable and really works, and I've found that Tampax Sport is my absolute favorite. These, though, are lightly scented, which made me very worried. I hate scented tampons because they always smell so strong and it's usually a disgusting floral smell. But these really are lightly scented, so they're perfect! I love how fresh they smell without being super overpowering. I'm definitely buying these from now on.

Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-On Manicure ($5.99)
I always have press on nails in my VoxBox, and it's kind of getting annoying. I never use fake nails, so these just end up sitting around until I finally throw them away. I really love the color of these, though! You can never go wrong with pink sparkles.

Expert Last Lip Color in Forever Fuchsia ($1.99)
I am not one for bright lip color, and boy is this bright. I'll probably never actually wear this lip color in public, but it's definitely fun to play with at home! Haha, when I'm in the mood for some daring lip color, I'll definitely whip this tube out.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation ($4.99-5.49)
I feel like a broken record saying this, but I actually don't use this product either. I've never used foundation because I'm always so scared I'm going to look like those girls who glop in it on and seem to have no idea how thick their face looks. As a non-foundation user, though, this one seems like a pretty good foundation. When I tried it out, the color matched my skin pretty well and it didn't feel too thick. I probably won't use it everyday, but it seems like a pretty good product to me.

Red Rose REAL TEA Premium Water Enhancer ($4.49)
These water enhancers seem to be pretty popular recently. I know that Crystal Light has some, but I've never heard of Real Tea from Red Rose. Using this product is super easy and there are 24 servings in one bottle, which is pretty good. I've used this a couple of times, and it's pretty good! I'm interested to see what other flavors they have. Since I'm not a big fan of plain water, I'll definitely be using these more often to stay hydrated.

While it wasn't my best box, it was still fun to try out all of the goodies I got. Now, I have a fun, new way to drink my water and some lipstick to put on whenever I feel like adding a burst of color to my day.

Kitchen Krazy: Pumpkin Sugar Cookies

Pumpkin is one of my favorite flavors, whether it's Fall or just the beginning of Spring. So, when I found the recipe for these Pumpkin Sugar Cookies, I knew I had to bookmark them ASAP. Since my sister and I have been home for spring break, we've been spending a lot of time in the kitchen. We've been making dinner every night and have made cookies three times now. We decided to mix things up and try making the pumpkin sugar cookies, and we loved them!

My sister has some issues with ripping off sheets of parchment paper. Every time she tries, they come out crooked and crinkled. Haha, so please excuse the super crinkly paper in the pictures. Gotta love her for trying!

When rolling this dough into balls to roll in sugar, it was so sticky. I was worried we had completely messed up the dough, but the recipe says that it's going to get messy. And messy it was! We had to pull off globs and drop them in the sugar before rolling them in order to form the dough into a ball shape. But we finally did it! And the cookies turned out quite yummy.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies
From The Novice Chef
Makes 18 cookies

Ingredients
1 2/3 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/3 cup pumpkin puree
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
sugar for rolling

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silpats. Set aside.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
3. In a stand mixer, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, pumpkin and vanilla extract, mixing until combined. Add flour mixture, mixing until completely combined.
4. Roll one heaping tablespoon of dough into balls (dough will be sticky) and then roll in sugar. Place on prepared baking sheet - leaving about an inch for spreading.
5. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the centers are set. Remove from oven and let cookies rest on baking sheet for 5 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

Don't they look so pretty? Make sure you bake them ALL THE WAY because half of mine weren't completely done, so they were quite soft, but they still tasted delicious! I'd just recommend baking them for at least 10 minutes so that they're cooked all the way through. I can't wait to make these when Fall comes and I'm craving pumpkin in everything I eat!

Movie Ticket Keepsake

I have a slight obsession with going to the movies. I love the feeling of getting a ticket and going to a theater to see a movie on the big screen. Since I love them so much, I have been saving my tickets for years. First, I would put them up around my mirror, but when that got full I simply kept them in a pocket in my purse. I've collected quite a few tickets since then!

I was reading the book Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone and one of the main characters is obsessed with going to concerts. Since he can time travel, he loves traveling to different concerts throughout time. In the book, he collected all of his tickets and kept them in a big bowl in his room. I absolutely loved that idea! So, my sister and I went to Hobby Lobby and got super adorable bowls for only $1.27. I love the ridged edge and think that it's the perfect size to collect my movie tickets in.

I am so obsessed with how pretty my movie ticket bowl is. I have my movie tickets from some of my most favorite and memorable films: the various Twilight films, Harry Potter, About Time, Transformers, Romeo and Juliet, Star Trek, The Avengers, Fame, and much, much more. With all of the movie tickets I have, it looks like I barely made a dent in my bowl! I can't wait to continue filling it up over the years. So many memories of my absolute favorite thing: Going to the movies.

[Instagram] Sweet Spring Break

Happy Spring Break everyone! The beginning of my Spring Break was pretty darn good. I never have big plans for break except for to hang out with my family and spend some time catching up on movies and reading. My sister and I saw Divergent on Saturday and I'm still obsessing over how awesome it was. That was definitely a great way to start out my break. We're planning on going to a couple more movies this week and I have a huge pile of books I'm hoping to get through. I recorded some of the highlights of me weekend on Instagram (as usual…).

-I made these to die for butterscotch pudding cookies with butterscotch chips. They turned out to have the perfect crunchy outside with a soft, pillowy inside. Mmmm time to grab another one…
-Vera Bradley was having a sale with 60% some of their colors, so my sister and I both got a large laptop tote. I, of course, had to go with the pink pattern :)
-To celebrate my 10 mile run Saturday morning, my sister and I grabbed some Krispy Kreme before seeing Divergent. The maple iced creme filled donut was so good. Oh, and the store was packed with little kids! I guess Krispy Kreme is the place to go on a Saturday morning.
-We've been letting Rosie up on the couch and she has become quite the cuddler. She'll get up on the couch and scoot over until she's basically in my lap, then plop down on it, even if I have my computer or book with me. What a cutie.
-We got some Sweetart jelly beans…again. And finished them in two days…
-My gold card came from Starbucks! Woo hoo! I can't wait to start using it.
-We also got Fruit Loops with marshmallows from the store. Marshmallows are definitely a great way to start out a day.
-We also stopped for ice cream at Handel's yesterday after we went shopping with our mom. Banana Cream Pie is delicious!
-More cuddle time for my puppy…but with my sister this time! We definitely fight over whose turn it is to cuddle with the puppy.

Literally not even 10 minutes ago Rosie was sprawled out across my stomach, snoring away while I was watching TV with my dad. I was literally sitting cross legged on the couch blogging with my computer in my lap when she decided to nudge her way in. I had to put my computer down and give into her cuteness. Haha, when she wants to cuddle, she'll cuddle. I see a lot more quality time being spent with that little girl for the rest of my break...

Sweet On Sunday #4

1. This Dropp! Fruit Bowl is probably the coolest bowl I've ever seen. I'd die if I had one!

2. Now that spring has officially sprung, I have been obsessed with anything and everything floral. The Beloved Botanicals Dress definitely caught my eye.

3. These Pantone A6 Notebooks are so cool. They come in a ton of colors, too!

4. This phone case pretty much sums up my life.

5. I want Sally's Baking Book so badly! I've been following her baking blog for over a year now and was so excited to see she came out with a baking book! Hopefully I can order one soon, because it looks gorgeous!

Pretty In Pink (1986)

I'm pretty sure I was born in the wrong decade. Seriously…the hair, the clothes, the music? Yeah, I am definitely an 80s teen at heart. I think that's why I'm absolutely obsessed with every single John Hughes movie. They capture teen angst so perfectly. I wasn't a big fan of Pretty In Pink when I first saw it a couple of years ago, but I absolutely loved it the second time around.

Andie has always found her place among the outcasts at school, wearing hand-made clothes and working at the record store. So when rich-boy Blane starts to show interest, Andie must choose between her best friend who's in love with her, and a guy who should be way out of her league, but has ended up stealing her heart.

How awesome are those clothes? I so wish I could raid Molly Ringwald's closet for every 80s movie she was in. I about died when I saw those floral pants she wore. Love them. And those glasses? I wish those were still in, because I would so rock them. Haha, why did 80s fashion ever go out of style??

I love how Andie made most of her clothes from thrift store finds. I would love to be that creative and have a style that was uniquely my own. Yeah, people made fun of her in the movie, but they were the rich annoying people who shouldn't even matter. Andie had an awesome fashion sense that I was completely jealous of. I wasn't a big fan of that pink dress at prom at the end, but her gorgeous floral pants definitely made up for that.

Can we just take a moment to discuss how awesome Duckie is? Please? He is so gosh darn sweet. That scene where he sang the song to Andie in the record store was too perfect. It's so sad how much of himself he gives for love, only to never have it returned. I'll love you, Duckie!

If you can't tell already, I love this movie. The quirky characters, insane clothes, and angsty storyline give everything you could ask for from a movie. Check it out on Netflix to see for yourself! Now I can't wait to experience some more John Hughes love with Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Some Kind of Wonderful. Marathon, anyone?

Kitchen Krazy: Fluffy Snickerdoodles

Towards the end of the summer last year, my sister and I were obsessed with baking. We would bring in a new cookie to work almost every day. We love baking, but never wanted to eat an entire 24 batch of cookies ourselves, so bringing them to work was the perfect solution!

One cookie we decided to try out were snickerdoodles. I love cinnamon, but I have never actually made snickerdoodles before. I went through some of my favorite baking websites and found the perfect recipe on How Sweet It Is. It looked super easy and super yummy, so we decided to try it out!

Fluffy Snickerdoodles
From How Sweet It Is
Makes 16-20 cookies

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon for dipping

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 375 F

2. Cream butter and sugar with an electric mixer until smooth. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well until combine, about 2 minutes. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix until dough comes together. Add in milk. If dough is still crumbly, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until it comes together. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
3. In a bowl combine remaining sugar and cinnamon. Remove dough from fridge and roll into big 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip in cinnamon sugar mixture and place on baking sheet. Lightly press down on dough to flatten it. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes.

These cookies really are so fluffy and so delicious. And since I gave up chocolate for lent (I know, I'm crazy…) they're the perfect treat to satisfy my sweet tooth. Who knew making something so good could be so easy? I'm definitely making these again. Is tomorrow too soon? I'm already craving more…

Top 3 Running Essentials

I've considered myself a "runner" for a little over two years now, and boy have I loved every second of it. I remember when I first started getting into running January of my freshman year of college. I was training for my first half marathon and during my first couple of weeks of running, my calves were so sore. As the months passed, I found muscles I didn't even know I could have, like in my calves and my thighs. Now, I'm training for my second half marathon and I already feel so much more prepared than I did the first time I ran one. 13.1 miles? No problem.

Throughout my journey of running, I have found there are three things that are a must in my running life…

Brooks Running Shoes
I have had three pairs of Brooks running shoes, and I would not trade them for anything in the world! Not only do they come in super fun colors (I've had two pink pairs and one turquoise pair), but they are extremely comfortable. I used to get charlie horses like it was my job when I first started running in cheap Nike shoes, but ever since I started wearing Brooks, no muscle cramps for me! Also, they last such a long time! My last pair lasted about 8 months of continuous running, which is a pretty long life for running shoes! I recently got the PureCadence 2 Running Shoe and I am seriously in love. I can't wait to run in them during the half marathon in May!

iPod shuffle
Have you ever tried running long distances without music? Well I have. And it sucks. During my first half marathon, my iPod died about 15 minutes into my run (shame on me for not checking the battery), so I had to run the remaining hour and 45 minutes with no music. It was awful! For me, music is a way to distract myself, pump me up, and make my run go by so much faster. My playlist is full of Jonas Brothers, One Direction, Paramore, Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync. What an awesome combination, right? Haha, well it works for me! My shuffle is pink (of course) and I've had it for over three years now and it still works like a charm. I use it almost every day and the battery lasts so long. Even with my long runs, I think I have to charge it every 3-4 weeks. And, it clips right on to my shorts so that I don't have to worry about carrying it and getting it all sweaty, or buying an annoying armband to hold it in place. It's perfect!

Running Log Free App
As a New Year's Resolution, I wanted to track the miles I run everyday. I found Running Log Free on iTunes and have been using it to log my miles everyday since January 1st. Since it's free, it's nothing fancy, which is exactly what I wanted. All I have to do is log how many miles I ran, how long it took me, and what time of day it was. The app tells me how many miles I've run every month, as well as my average pace. Yeah, it has some ads when you first enter the app, but it's totally worth the free app. There's a version you can pay for in order to log multiple runs a day, but since I only run once a day, the free version was perfect for me. In the past 17 days, I have run 81.27 miles! How crazy is that? I love how motivated this app keeps me and how I can compare how far I run month to month. According to the app, since the beginning of the year, I've run 308.48 miles. Yeah, I'd say I'm officially a runner :)

[Instagram] Home Sweet Home

This weekend, I went a bit Instagram crazy. That's just what happens when I go home! I get to do a ton of fun things and want to take pictures of all of them! These aren't even all of the pictures I took over the past three days. I know, I have a serious addiction to Instagram, but I'm not even ashamed of it! I just have to document all of the good moments in life :)

-My puppy is getting old and her joints were really hurting her this weekend. She can't jump up onto the couch by herself, but once you get her up there she'll cuddle for hours. What a cutie!
-I finally got my Shamrock Shake after visiting TWO McDonald's with a broken shake machine.
-I found Skittle and Starburst scented candles for only $1 at JoAnn's. Of course I just had to get them!
-Speaking of candy…my sister and I tried some Sweetart Jelly Beans and they're so good. Seriously, I may be addicted.
-Being home means finally having a Cane's within a reasonable driving vicinity. With one 5 minutes from my house, I picked some up for the family for lunch on Saturday after having two interviews over the past two days with possible summer camp councelor jobs. Fingers crossed for those!
-Half Price Books had a 50% off your highest priced item coupon, so I got a huuggeeeee baking book from Bon Appetit for only $5! With Spring Break coming up, I can't wait to try out all of those recipes.
-You know how I mentioned an obsession with Jelly Beans? Well, my mother loves to feed my obsessions and got me a bag of Starburst Jelly Beans to take back to school. They may or may not already be half gone…

I've been back at school for about 4 hours and just looking at these pictures makes me already miss home…good thing Spring Break starts on Thursday for me! Only four days of classes until I get to make the two hour drive back home for an entire week to spend with my puppy, sister, and parents. And maybe a bag (or ten) of jelly beans….

2. These Cotton Reel Notebooks are too cute! Perfect for a crafter like me!

3. As an obsessive Instagramer, I fell so hard for this No Filter Mug from Modcloth!

5. I would absolutely love to add this Toy Story ring from Hot Topic!

Monkey Business (1952)

Another Marilyn movie for me! Though, I don't understand why she's on the cover of the movie poster, seeing as she's more of a secondary character…but Monkey Business was such a cute, old comedy and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Barnaby has been looking for the perfect combination to finally make the fountain of youth pill for his company. When a monkey they're experimenting on gets loose and messes with the chemicals, he creates a formula that gets accidentally mixed into the water cooler. Barnaby gets a dose of the mixture and starts to act like a teenager again, buying a new shiny car and going roller skating with his pretty secretary. His wife takes an even larger dose, and proves that the more you take, the younger you act. Their relationship is put to the test as they try to figure out exactly how they got the formula to work.

Like I said, this movie was so much fun. While it dealt with the difficulties and trust issues in marriage, there was a lighter edge to it when the characters started to act younger and younger. And look at how adorable that monkey is! He would cuddle up with Barnaby and be the cutest darn thing. Who could be mad at something with a face like that?

I thought it was fun when Barnaby spent the whole day he felt like a teenager with Marilyn Monroe's character. He was so uptight and out of it in the beginning of the movie, and he really let go when he took the solution. He drove his new car like a maniac and did all of the things his body couldn't do anymore when he was older. Then, when his wife started acting like a 12-year-old, things got even crazier. She was playing pranks left and right and wearing her now normal-aged husband out. Who knew having a wife could be so tiring?

The youth solution definitely put Barnaby's relationship with his wife to the test, and brought them closer. Even though old insecurities about past boyfriends/relationships resurfaced when they were "younger" thanks to the solution, Barnaby and his wife learned just how valuable their relationship as a married couple really is.

Screwball comedies are definitely becoming one of my favorite genres to watch. They're so simple and fun, and I can't get enough of them! Check out Monkey Business on Netflix now to get a good old dose of Marilyn Monroe and realizing youth isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Wardrobe Wishlist: Feline Fantasy

It's been forever since I've done a wardrobe wish list, and I've missed it! I was so ready to style a dress from Modcloth, but this winter storm that just blew through our last two days of 70 degree weather and dropped the temperature to below 30 degrees yesterday completely dampened my spirits. I couldn't imagine wearing a dress in this weather! Haha, but I can definitely see myself curling up in a big, comfy sweater like this adorable cat one. Seriously, I live in sweaters during the winter.

And nothing is better than cat-themed clothing! My friend got a shirt from Walmart that is a collage of cat faces, and I was so jealous that I actually drove to Walmart later that week to get one. Little did I know, everyone else loves cats as much as I do, and Walmart was all out! I had even asked an employee to help me find them and she took me to the completely empty shelf. I guess I have to keep my eye out and react quicker when I hear about cat clothes through the grapevine.

Another wardrobe must for me during the winter are boots. Over the past year, I have collected three pairs of boots, two that cut just below the knee and one that cuts right above the ankle. Boots can dress up any outfit and they are so comfortable. I have a 15-20 walk to and from class, so comfortable shoes are a necessity in my life. I could live in my boots and be one happy camper. It doesn't look like it's going to warm back up to 70 degrees anytime soon, so it's back to sweaters and boots for me!

To Do List Catchup

Over my 7 month blogging break, I got some of my to do list items done. While it's not much, I'm still so happy to mark these things off of my to do list. This past year has been pretty amazing and I have done things I never even dreamed I'd be able to do. The major thing? Going to London for 6 weeks! That was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I've missed London pretty much every day since. But I already recapped that experience a ton, so let's move onto what I was up to while I fell out of blogging for awhile...

#1: Read 130 books in a year

In 2013, I actually officially read 177 books. Yeah, I blew my goal of 130 books out of the water! I may read way too much, but that's just the way I like it. My goal for this year is to read 170 books in 2014 and I'm already 3 ahead! We'll see if I can keep up the good work for the rest of the year.

#5: Read every Jane Austen novel

Among those 170 books I read last year were my remaining Jane Austen reads! And now I've officially read all six of her finished novels. I'd have to say that Pride and Prejudice is definitely my favorite, with Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility tying for second. I've already started rereading some of her books for book club and I love them even more the second time around. I think Jane Austen is probably my favorite author now, and it's bittersweet that I have finished her books; no more new stories to sweep me off my feet. But that doesn't mean Mr. Darcy can't sweep me off my feet again and again and again…

#40: Go to a drive in movie theater

There is a drive in theater about 20 minutes from campus that I had been dying to go to ever since I was a freshman. In May of last year, my friend and I decided to finally go for the premiere of Iron Man 3. We ended up seeing both Iron Man 3 and Oz: The Great and Powerful for only $5 with our student discount. I brought some knitting and we settled back for about four hours of watching movies in the great outdoors. It was so much fun and I can wait for the drive in to open up for the Spring season!

#64: Make macaroons

I completed this one a loooonnnngggg time ago, but for some reason never got around to actually posting about it. I became obsessed with macaroons after the first time I made them (the pink one in the picture was my first attempt) and have made quite a few batches since then. I've experimented with different flavors and definitely have a love/hate relationship with these cookies now. It's so hard to get them to look perfect, and I never know how they'll turn out until the moment I pull them out of the oven. The first time I made them, they looked perfect. Since then, I've made some great batches and some pretty ugly batches, and don't know what I do wrong! I guess it's a matter of luck with me, but I'll definitely never stop making these. They're just too pretty and tasty to give up on.

#67: See a Shakespeare play at the Globe Theater

By the end of my trip to London this summer, I actually got to see three plays at the Globe Theater. I saw Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Twelfth Night. I was a groundling for all three performances, and for two of the three plays we arrived over an hour early so that we could be right up against the stage. The experience of watching these plays on the Globe Theater stage was so surreal and the performances were phenomenal. I even got to see Billy Boyd (who played Pippin in The Lord of the Rings movies) in Macbeth, which was such a treat. I'd definitely say that going to the Globe Theater was one of the best experiences I had in London and I can't wait to go back one day!
