Craft Corner: Starboard Socks

I've been wanting to make a pair of thick, cozy socks for awhile now, but I never get around to making any. When I found the pattern for these starboard socks on Ravelry, I was just itching to make them. They just looked so cozy and fun! The technique of holding two strands of yarn together creates such a cool effect and I knew the pink and blue would be absolutely perfect together. Mmmmm, now I want to eat some cotton candy :)

I was a little scared going in because it's a sock and I've only made one pair of socks with size 1 needles. These used size 10 and I wasn't sure how the size would turn out with the Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. Well, I had nothing at all to worry about! These were so much fun to make and I love how they turned out. Too bad it's almost summer now, though! I guess I'll wear them around the house for now. But I know come winter next year, I'm wearing these adorable socks every chance I can! I can't wait to experiment with other colors and see how many other pairs I can make.

What I Wore: Ruffled Flowers

::Outfit Details::
Dress :: Forever 21
Sweater :: Gap
Shoes :: Macy's

Another dress! Yay! I am so in love with the ruffled button up front of this dress. I'm normally not a big fan of ruffles on outfits, but they're just such a cute added touch that makes the dress so much more adorable. This dress actually has 3/4 length sleeves, but the shoulders are a bit poofy, so I think the sweater does a perfect job of hiding that awkwardness of my shoulders.

I know, the background of these pictures suck (there's very limited space in a super tiny college dorm room), but I promise I will look for better places for outfit pictures! It's supposed to be sunny and in the 70s on Monday and Tuesday, and you can bet I've already got two dresses lined up to wear on both of those days. With only two weeks left at school, I've got to leave my college classmates with a bang! Which, to me, means wowing them with my adorable spring/summer dresses. I can't wait!

Dum Dums and Dorian Gray

The end of school is so close and I just want it here and gone already! With exams and final papers looming, you can say I can't wait to be able to breath when it's all over. Hopefully I can take this weekend to relax before buckling down next weekend to get everything done. Here's what I hope to do to keep calm and survive the end!

-Read The Picture of Dorian Gray. I have to read this book for class, but it's I'm actually really enjoying it. It's definitely not what I thought it would be like and I'm really excited to see how it's going to end.

-Drink tea from my owl mug. I have so much tea in my room and I want to try to drink it up before school ends. Good thing I have my adorable owl mug from my mom to drink it in :)

-Knit fun socks. I am having so much fun making these pink and blue socks. I don't think I've ever knitted something holding two strands of yarn together, but I have to say I love the look. I can't wait to see how they turn out in the end.

-Make scones. Again, this is something that I have in my room that I hope to get rid of by move out time. And by get rid of I mean bake and eat. Haha, hopefully they turn out as yummy as they sound.

-Eat dum dums. When my parents visited last week, my dad brought me diet coke, dum dums, and chocolate. Yeah, he knows me pretty well! Eating these delicious candies will definitely make me one happy girl this weekend.

That's it! Simple, yet very relaxing. Do you guys have anything fun to do this weekend?

Friday's Favorites

Wow, it's Friday already? For some reason this week just seemed to fly by! Maybe that's because next week is my last week of classes as a sophomore in college! Then, one week of exams, one week of summer, and I'm off to London! Wow, everything just seems to be happening so fast. These next 2 months are about to be the best :)

1) Hehe, I would love to have this camera shirt...it's so punny ;)

2) Mmmmm I could totally go for some donuts right now. That chocolate sprinkle one looks especially delicious.

3) This DIY paint swatch calendar looks so cool and super easy to do!

4) I'm literally drooling over how delicious these chocolate dipped oreo reese's. I have got to make these sometime soon.

5) I love these cloud nails. They actually don't look too hard to do, so maybe I'd actually be successful at making them!

6) Oh my gosh, it's a checkerboard cake! That is beyond cool and I finally know how it's done!

7) How cute are these couple mugs? If only I had a boyfriend, the first thing I'd buy would be the milk and cookies mug.

8) A rainbow batman cake! You really can't get much better than that...

9) I love this cloudy blue typewriter. It would be so much fun to be able to write things on a typewriter again.

10) These leather bracelets are so cute! The one with the pair of scissors is definitely my favorite.

Wishlist: Marvelous Mugs

I don't know what it is, but mugs can be so darn cute and I am absolutely obsessed with them! I love going to Good Will or other thrift shops and finding a super cute, quirky mug to take home with me. I just know that when I'm older with my own home, I'm going to have one awesome collection of mugs. My favorites are definitely ones with animals on them, like owls, penguins, and cats. About a month ago, I found one with dinosaurs on it for only 50 cents! You could say I was one happy girl.

In my own collection now, I have mugs shaped like an ice cream cone, a squirrel, and an owl. Oh, and one of my absolute favorite mugs is my Central Perks mug (from Friends the TV show) that my sister got me two Christmases ago. Needless to say, I'm always excited when I need to get something to drink because then I get to pick out which of my adorable mugs to use. I'd love to collect some literary/book related mugs because I think those would be perfect to use when I start to teach! Oh the possibilities :)

Do you guys like to collect fun mugs? What are some of your favorite mugs that you own?

What I Wore: Blue Butterflies

:: Outfit Details ::
Dress :: Macy's
Sweater :: Gap

Since the weather has been beyond gorgeous (at least before this past weekend hit), I have been so excited to wear dresses. One of the first dresses I wore was this blue butterfly dress I got from Macy's a couple of years ago. It just screams spring. But you know what the best part about it is? The pockets! Any dress with pockets is definitely a plus for me. And I love how the green makes the outfit look even more perfect for spring.

Sorry for the horrible picture background, but being at school doesn't really give me a lot of options for taking pictures of my own outfits! Maybe next time I have a cute outfit, I'll go exploring and see if I can find a prettier location. That just makes me so excited for my next opportunity to wear another lovely dress that has been hanging sadly in my closet during these long, dreadful winter months. Spring dresses here I come :)

Craft Corner: Cabled Baby Hat

I love making new items to donate to the hospital for my knitting club, but I had realized that I haven't made any baby hats! Isn't that the most common thing people make for hospitals? So I went on good old Ravelry and found this adorable cabled baby hat pattern and knew that was going to be my next project.

For this project, I wanted to make sure I used fun yarn too because, let's face it, what's cuter than a baby in bright, fun colors? And it's so tiny and adorable! I can't believe that it's actually going to fit on a little person.

After my first successful attempt at making a baby hat, I can't wait to make so many more! It went by pretty quickly and I'm in love with how it turned out. Have you guys ever made baby hats? Do you have a favorite pattern to use?

Wardrobe Wishlist: Light and Breezy

Lately, it has been absolutely gorgeous outside, but with this lovely spring weather has come some pretty hefty winds. That hasn't stopped me from wearing my dresses and skirts though. I have waited too long for these temperatures to let a little wind scare me off.

This dress I found on Modcloth reminded me so much of the light and breezy winds of spring that I fell in love with it! So, of course, I had to make an outfit that evoked that same feeling. I love the blue and greens and think that they embody spring so well. Not to mention the birds on the ring and watch. Can you tell I'm excited that spring is finally here?

Temperatures are supposed to dip again over the next couple of days, but warm weather is in the future for next week. It's crazy how finally being able to wear a dress can make me feel so happy. I feel so free and light! Haha, I know I'm weird, but it just feels so good to be happy because of an outfit. If only I had the money to buy every dress I fall in love with on Modcloth....

Baby Hats and Mint Lip Balm

Hey everyone! I hope you're having a lovely Saturday morning because I sure am. I got up and ran 6 miles and now I'm waiting for my parents to come to take me out for a day of shopping! I've been waiting for this day to come for so long now because I haven't seen my parents in so long (okay, it's been like three weeks, but that's long to me). During the down time I have this weekend, here's what else I'll be up to...

-I'll be reading this adorable book by Debbie Macomber I got for review. I realized that it actually has some knitting in it and the main character likes to hang out at a knitting shop, so I know it's definitely my kind of read.

-I have to read The Picture of Dorian Gray for an English Lit class and I'm so excited! I've heard great things about Oscar Wilde, so I can't wait to get into that one.

-I got another flavor of EOS lip balm and I'm obsessed. This mint flavor is by far my favorite.

-My days until London are slowly dwindling and I get more nervous/excited as each day passes. Only 29 more days :)

-I started knitting this adorable cabled baby hat and I cannot get over how tiny and cute it is. I'm going to do a post about it later this week, so make sure to keep your eye out for that.

Good books, new lip balm, and knitting....I don't know how my weekend could get any better :) I hope you all have a great weekend as well!

Friday's Favorites

Hey guys! It's Friday! Yay! This week went by a little slow, but I think that's because I've got a ton of great things planned this weekend that I'm super excited for. I'm baking cupcakes with my friend today, spending the entire day with my parents tomorrow, then I have a ton of stuff going on Sunday. It's definitely going to be a busy next couple of days, but I can't wait :)

1) I absolutely love this polka dot dress. It looks perfect for the summer!

2) Earth Cupcakes! With a cut out heart! These are so fun!

3) These nautical nails are so cute and don't look hard to do at all.

4) How fun would it be to have Wonka Bars as your wedding invitations?

5) A Batman ring! Haha, I would probably never take this off...

6) Now that is how you make an ice cream cone

7) Yum, these banana chocolate sandwiches looks so delicious.

8) Awwww, nothing like some Monster's Inc mugs to brighten up your day.

9) Hehe, this is probably one of the funniest book dedications ever.

10) This ice cream nail polish looks so fun!

Journal Embroidery: Drink Tea, Read Books, Be Happy

After my very first page of journal embroidery, I kind of made the rookie mistake of poking my holes with two pages stuck together...and I hadn't realized that until I had already done the entire outline of the tea cup. Good thing I love the cup! Haha, so I decided to not waste the page and do the tea cup in different colors and add a new quote. I think it turned out quite lovely!

This quote pretty much describes my life, so I think that's why I love it so much. Give me a cup of tea and a good big and I'll be set for the rest of the day. I'm still having a bit of trouble with embroidering cursive letters, but I'm working on it! I think the problem is I don't make the letters big enough, so the stitches are too close and the floss gets too crowded. I will definitely have to keep that in mind for next time.

I love filling my journal with things that represent me. Books and tea really are all I need to be happy :) And maybe some chocolate thrown in as well....

Craft Corner: Chunky Striped Cowl

I am so excited to share my latest knitting project with you all! My friend from knitting club was making this a couple of weeks ago and I loved how the pattern looked. So, of course, I went straight to Ravelry and was super excited to find the free pattern. Not to mention the title contained the word "easy," so I knew I could whip this one up no problem.

I had some Beige Homespun Lion Brand Yarn sitting around in my yarn basket for about a month and I had absolutely no idea what to use it for. I loved the color and how soft the yarn was, so I was really hesitant to start a new project because I wanted to make sure it was perfect. Luckily, I found this pattern because it turned out to be the perfect pattern for this lovely yarn.

In the end, I'm really happy with this cowl. All I had to do was alternate knitting 4 rows and purling 4 rows, so it was really easy to do while watching some more episodes of Friday Night Lights. I ended up finishing this one in only one day and I can't wait to wear it! I don't care if it's going to be in the 70s this week. My new cowl will make a new appearance so that I can show it off to everyone I know :)

Journal Embroider: Make Magic Happen

I am so obsessed with my latest page from my embroidery journal! I knew I wanted to do a camera, but I had absolutely no idea how I wanted the camera to look or what quote I wanted to go with it. So, I googled cameras and found this lovely little guide on Pinterest of different types of cameras. I decided to go with the Diana camera and I think it turned out perfectly!

As for the quote, I simply looked up camera quotes on Pinterest (seriously, Pinterest is a life savor) and found a cute print with a camera and the quote "Make Magic Happen." And I got to use the french knot again! Haha, that's becoming my absolute favorite stitch on these embroideries.

Another page, another success. Now off to think up more ideas on what to do for my next page...

Journal Embroidery: What Would Jane Austen Do?

More journal embroidery! I have become so obsessed with doing some embroidery in my Jane Austen journal that that's all I pretty much did yesterday. I sat down in front of my computer, turned on Friday Night Lights (the TV show) on Netflix, and worked on my embroidery. I saw this phrase embroidered onto fabric in Dear Moonbeams etsy shop and thought it was the perfect quote for my journal. How could I be using a Jane Austen journal and not do something about Jane Austen?

Overall, I loved how this page turned out. I was able to practice my letters, which I struggled with on my first journal page. For this one, I also learned how to do the french knot, which I had to use for the j and the question mark. It's actually really easy to do and I love how the knots look in the piece as a whole.

Needless to say, journal embroidery is so much fun and I'm pretty sure it's my new favorite hobby. I can't wait to fill up my notebook with even more fun pages of pictures and quotes :)
